Impermanence Quilt

The Impermanence Quilt is my first full size, entirely plant dyed quilt. The front is pieced with cotton, linen and silk dyed with avocados for the pinks and avocados and iron for the greys. The yellow centres come from a variety of dye stuffs including goldenrod, pomegranate and weld. It is backed with a mid-weight linen throw dyed with avocado skins and stones and dipped in a mild iron solution for a soft lilac colour. Wadding is a recycled cotton and polyester (70/30) and it is bound with a mix of plant dyed linens. Hand quilted with sturdy sashiko thread.  This is a large and weighty quilt, suitable for use on a bed or to hang on a wall (let me know if you would like a hanging sleeve added for this purpose).

Quilt Care: 
Plant dyed fabrics are inherently less colour and light fast than their chemical counterparts. The transience of these gently luminous colours is part of their beauty and any gradual fading will not detract from the integrity of the piece. 
 
You can prolong the intensity of your plant dyed pieces by keeping them out of direct sunlight. Should they need washing, hand wash with a gentle detergent in cool water and air dry.
